Work the swatch in Stockinette st and block it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the swatch, knit a bigger square of around 15 x 15 cm (6 in x 6 in) in order to measure the gauge in the middle. Knit the first and last 3 sts in garter stitch to prevent the sample from curling.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you do not have the same stitch gauge try using a different needle until you have the exact number of stitches. Work flat while completing the Koala until reaching the sleeves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cast on sts for the sleeves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the neckline, Bind off the center stitches and leave right sleeve stitches on waste yarn or stitch holder. Continue with left sleeve. Make additional rows for the sweater opening. Instructions as follows:<br>Row 1 (RS): K to end.<br>Row 2 (WS): K5, p30 (p35, p40, p45, p52), k21 (k23, k23, k25, k27), p30 (p35, p40, p45, p52), k5.<br>Row 3-4: Repeat Row 1-2 once more.<br>Row 5 (RS): k38 (k43, k48, K53, k60), bind off central 15 (17, 17, 19, 21) sts, k38 (k43, k48, K53, k60).<br><em>Right sleeve.<\/em><br>Work the sts on right sleeve. You have 38 (43, 48, 53, 60) sts.<br>Row 6 (WS): K5, p to last 3 sts, k3.<br>Row 7 (RS): K to end.<br>Row 8 (WS): Repeat Row 6.<br>Leave these sts on a stitch holder or waste yarn. These are the bound off sts for the neck and shoulder opening.<br>Continue knitting the sts of the right sleeve which where on the stitch holder. <em>You have 91 (103, 113, 125, 141) sts.<\/em>Row 10 (WS): K5, p30 (p35, p40, p45, p52), k30 (k33, k36, k39, k42), p21 (p25, p27, p31, p37), k5.<br>Row 11 (RS): K to end.<br>Row 12 (WS): Repeat Row 10.<br>Row 13 (RS): K to end.<br>Row 14 (WS): K5, p to last 5 sts, k5.<br>Repeat rows 13-14 until you reach Row 30 (32, 32, 34, 36).<br>If you prefer you should have 48 (52, 52, 56, 60) rows from sleeve start. See Techniques on page 4 for support in counting the rows.End on a WS row.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Section 4: Bind off Sleeves \u2013 back part<\/strong><br>Bind off sleeve sts and continue with back part.<br>Row 1 (RS): Bind off 26 (30, 32, 36, 42) sts, k to end. <em>65 (73, 81, 89, 99) sts.<\/em><br>Row 2 (WS): Bind off 26 (30, 32, 36, 42) sts, p to end. <em>39 (43, 49, 53, 57) sts.<\/em><br>Continue working St st until the back part measures the same as the front. The last 6 rows are knitted in Garter st.<br>Bind off 39 (43, 49, 53, 57) sts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Section 5: Finishings<\/strong><br>Although you could knit it as you go, I decided to Duplicate st for the diaper, after the Koala is completed. Therefore, with a tapestry needle copy the \u201cV\u201d of the knitted sts where the diaper should be.
