Celebrate 52 Weeks of Scrap Yarn

The Celebrate pattern is part of the 52 Weeks of Scrap Yarn collection by Laine Magazine and is also available as an individual pattern in both English and Spanish.

Celebrate is a top-down yoke sweater designed to play with colour and shape while making the most of your scrap yarn. The colourwork is easy to follow, using only two colours per round — making it approachable and fun to knit.

This joyful and versatile sweater lets you celebrate your creativity and add a splash of colour to your wardrobe.

Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9)
Recommended ease: 20–25 cm / 8–10″ positive ease
Finished bust circumference: 95–175 cm / 37.5–69″

Materials

  • Yarn: DK weight

    • MC: approx. 750–1250 m / 820–1370 yds

    • CC1–CC5: approx. 13–55 m / 14–60 yds each

The sample was knitted in Retrosaria Rosa Pomar Brusca in six colours, a 2ply woollen-spun Portuguese wool blend yarn.

  • Needles: US 6 / 4 mm (main fabric) and US 4 / 3.5 mm (ribbing).

  • Notions: stitch markers, stitch holders or waste yarn, tapestry needle.

Gauge

  • 23 sts x 26.5 rnds = 10 cm / 4″ in colourwork after blocking

  • 20 sts x 28 rnds = 10 cm / 4″ in stockinette after blocking

The pattern has been fully edited and test knitted to ensure accuracy and clarity.

Construction notes

This sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down. It features colourwork on the yoke worked only with 2 colours per round. The back has optional short rows to give it a bit more length and to improve the fit. The back hem is longer than the front.

Difficulty Level

Intermediate.
Pattern has been tech edited and tested.

Needles: US 6 / 4 mm (for main work) and US 4 / 3.5 mm 32” / 80 cm circular needles (for rib).
