Silvestria Headband Knitting Pattern

Do you have leftover yarn from other projects, or a special skein you’re not sure how to use? This headband is the perfect companion to your favourite hand-knit garments. It’s a small project that combines texture, volume, and warmth—ideal to knit in an afternoon and enjoy a unique accessory made by you.

This pattern is designed for beginners eager to learn.

The piece is worked side to side, beginning and ending with an i-cord that allows the headband to fit comfortably around the head. You can also add a buckle or a stockinette-stitch tie at the centre for a delicate and personal finishing touch.

It’s an ideal project for anyone looking for something quick, beautiful, and perfect for giving new life to those cherished leftover balls of yarn.

Construction: Worked side to side with an i-cord at each end.
Materials: 15 g of fingering- to DK-weight yarn. Width will vary depending on yarn weight (fingering will be narrower and DK wider).
Gauge: Not required. The headband itself can serve as a gauge reference for future versions.

Construction notes

The headband is knitted sideways, starting and ending with an I-cord that serves as a tie to adjust it around the head. After finishing, it is completed with a small buckle or a stockinette stitch bow at the center.

There are three versions of the headband:

Version 1: Features more lace and embroidered flowers in the first half, while the second half has only a small lace detail.

Version 2: Features a symmetrical lace pattern on both halves. The cover sample shows this version.

Version 3: Similar to Version 2, but wider.

Once the headband is knitted, there are endless possibilities to customize it and add additional texture and personality to the piece. It can be left as is, or enhanced with embroidery, beads, or even dried flowers.The different options are explained.

Materials

  • 15 g of yarn, fingering to DK weight. The width will vary depending on the yarn thickness (fingering will be narrower, DK will be wider).
  • Circular or double-pointed needles suitable for the yarn: 3–3.5 mm (US 3 to 4) for fingering weight, 4 mm (US 6) for DK weight.
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
  • Crochet hook of a similar size for making bobbles (optional).

Gauge

A gauge swatch is not strictly necessary, except to check how tight or loose your knitting is. Due to its small size, the headband itself can serve as a swatch, allowing adjustments for future versions. So, for those who don’t enjoy knitting swatches — good news!
