When we play with lacework, we create textures reminiscent of lace from other eras. Summer allows dresses to be worn with lacework creating unique and timeless garments that stand out in the closets of the little ones.

Lore – Knitting Pattern for Children: Dress, Top, or Sweater (part of Lore Collection)

A Versatile Knit for the Little Ones

A children’s knitting pattern that lets you decide what to create: a top, a dress, or a cosy sweater. All three options share the same delicate motif and belong to the Lore Collection. The adult version is also available.

A Canvas of Wildflowers

Lace is my drawing tool. Increases, decreases, and stitch combinations create the lines that guide my hand across a blank canvas. On this canvas, I’ve drawn wildflowers—those found in a spring meadow, ready to transport you every time you look at them. You choose where to place them: on a top, a dress, or a cropped sweater.

One Pattern, Three Garments

The pattern includes instructions for top, dress, and sweater versions from size 6–12 months to 12 years.
You can stop at the top length, continue into a full dress, or add sleeves for the sweater. The little one’s opinion may even guide you—my daughter loves dresses, especially the ones that twirl when she spins.

Part of the Mini&Me Collection

This design belongs to my Mini&Me collection, which includes both the children’s version and the adult top/sweater. Adult pattern here.
If you already own one of the two patterns, use the code on the last page to get the other with a 20% discount.

A Fully Visual Pattern

The pattern is entirely charted by size, making it a very visual project.
Each size is laid out on a single sheet showing every stitch required. There are no row-by-row written instructions—only charts, plus explanations for all stitches used.

Skill Level

An intermediate level is recommended so you can enjoy the process without frustration.
The lace motif is worked in the round until the armhole split.

Tech Edited & Tested

The pattern has been tech edited and tested by multiple knitters to ensure clarity and accuracy.

Construction notes:

The top is worked in the round up to the armhole. Continue working front and back flat. Sew the shoulder seams and knit the neck and sleeve ends.

If you want to knit the sweater, work the sleeves.

If you want to knit the dress, pick up the sts at the bottom of the top and work the skirt in the round.

Difficulty Level

What do you need to know?

To knit and purl, increase and decrease, and work in the round. The top pattern is charted only. I include a video to help you with charts if it is your first time. Support videos available for some stitches. Auxiliary photos for some steps provided.
